If you’re looking for a healthy and easy snack, you’ve come to the right place!
These Easy Baked Apple Chips take just minutes to prepare, and they’re a real crowd pleaser.
I have a few tips to make the perfect apple chips.
First, you want to make sure you cut your apples into super thin slices with a sharp knife or mandoline (at 1/16 inch setting).
If the slices are too thick, you won’t get that satisfying crunch. The chips will be soft and chewy, which is fine if that’s what you’re going for.
Next, you want to be sure to line your sheet pan with parchment paper or a Silpat for easy cleanup and to prevent the chips from sticking to the pan.
Place your apple slices on the Silpat in a single layer for best results.
Sprinkle the chips with cinnamon, if desired. You can just sprinkle one side, or do both sides if you like.
Depending on the variety of apples you use, you may want to add some sugar, too. I usually only add sugar to very tart varieties, such as Granny Smith apples.
If you like the tartness, feel free to omit the sugar. You can also use healthier sugar substitutes like Stevia or coconut sugar.
I prefer sweeter varieties, in order to keep things simple and forego the extra sugar. My favorite apple variety is Honeycrisp, though Pink Lady and Gala apples are close runner-ups.
Another secret for incredibly crispy baked apple chips is to cook them low and slow.
Bake them at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for about 2.5 hours, flipping the chips once halfway through. If they’re still not crispy enough, bake them for an additional 30 minutes.
Once the apple chips are finished baking, turn off the oven, and leave them in there for another hour to really set their crunch.
Remove the apple chips from the oven, and enjoy them warm or let them cool to room temperature.
If you have any left after you’re done snacking (highly unlikely), you can store apple chips for up to a week in an airtight container, though they won’t be quite as good as fresh.
