I admit, some of my family members pick on me for being a hippie because I prefer all-natural products, but I’ll still recommend them as much as I can because the dangers of using regular products is very real.
When you use any cleaners, whatever that product is made of doesn’t magically go away when you wipe or rinse – it coats your home, your surfaces, your countertops.
When you and your family come in contact with conventional cleaners like Windex, Febreze, Comet, Glade, and more, you’re getting these chemicals on you.
In the short term, these products can cause and aggravate rashes, asthma, allergies, and chemical sensitivities.
In the long term, they may cause cancer, ADHD, hormone imbalances, autoimmune diseases, developmental, growth, and behavioral issues, and many more problems in both adults and children.
Plus, they’re terrible for the environment and can run off through our drains and into our waterways to contaminate wildlife and our food supply!
Since so many people use these products, we being inundated by them!
It does take some getting used to, but if you commit to using all-natural products in your home, you’ll find out they’re so much better.
Now, I can’t stand the smell of conventional products – they actually make me feel sick when I’m around them!
I think I may have been that sick from them all along, but now that I’ve gotten away from them and feel better normally, I can feel their effects on me more than I could before.
I switched over to natural products slowly because I didn’t want to feel overwhelmed and also didn’t want to throw away products I had already bought.
This can be a great transition method for you because you won’t have to change your habits all at once (which can be difficult), and it won’t hurt your pocketbook so badly if you slowly replace normal products with eco-friendly ones.
You may be wondering how you can save money with all-natural cleaning.
Won’t you just have to buy all-natural products, which can be more expensive than conventional?
Well, that’s one way to go, but I prefer using a mix of store bought and DIY products to get the best clean I can while saving loads of money.
I also like to use E-Cloths, which are all-natural cleaning cloths, mops, and other amazing products that do a great job cleaning and disinfecting your home using only tap water!
E-Cloths can be washed and reused again and again, which can definitely save you loads of money.
Use a plastic food bag to soak your shower head overnight for effortless removal of lime scale and soap scum.
Just fill the bag with white vinegar and a few drops of lemon essential oil (I love this brand), and secure the bag on your shower head with a rubber band or elastic hair tie.
The next morning, remove the bag, and wipe your shower head clean.
She recommends using a Norwex EnviroCloth, which is a wonderful, eco-friendly, non-toxic product, but Norwex products are pretty pricey.
E-Cloths are a more affordable alternative, and I think they work just as well.
PRO TIP: This method also works great on faucets!
My favorite way to clean glass, windows, and mirrors is with E-Cloths – and you don’t need any cleaning spray!
Just wet an E-Cloth Microfiber or Polishing Cloth with tap water, and wring it out to remove as much water as you can.
Wipe your mirror thoroughly to remove any dirt, hairspray, and other gunk. Then, use a dry polishing cloth to buff out any streaks.
The cloths remove dirt and bacteria for a safe clean without any dangerous chemicals!
Recommended Products: Get the E-Cloth Window Cleaning Pack for windows, mirrors, and other glass, or buy this 8-piece Starter Set to clean your whole home.
I have just about every E-Cloth product, and I love all of them! They have cloths for almost every cleaning job all over the house!
Plus, you know E-Cloths are a great product because they have the Good Housekeeping Seal.
With the E-Cloth Microfiber Mop, you only need water to get a safe, sanitized clean.
Just like the microfiber cloths, the close knit of the fabric actually cleans and disinfects better than conventional cleaners without any dangerous chemicals!
Just soak the mop cloth in clean water, then wring it out until it’s no longer dripping wet. Attach the mop head to the handle, and you’re ready to scrub your floor.
Rinse and repeat as much as you need to until all the dirt is gone.
Since I tried this mop, I’ll never use another – it’s honestly that amazing! Learn more at ECloth.com.
To keep pipes clear, pour boiling water down your drains once per week. This method works best on metal pipes.
Boiling water may be too hot for PVC pipes, so if you have those, just use the hottest water that comes from your tap.
You won’t need to deal with clogged drains again with this tub drain hair catcher that lets water flow freely while catching those pesky hairs for easy removal.

Bleach is one of those scary, toxic cleaners I’ve been referencing throughout this post. Sure, bleach will kill mold, but it also releases toxic fumes and sticks to surfaces long after you clean.
Why use dangerous chemicals when you can clean mold effectively with a solution made of safe, all-natural ingredients?
This tutorial uses vinegar, tea tree oil, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide to easily and effectively clean dangerous black mold and prevent it from coming back.
It’s easy to forget to clean the bathroom exhaust fan – out of sight, out of mind, right? But these fans are dust magnets and can get seriously unsightly!
Clean your exhaust fan effortlessly with a Compressed Air Duster.
Rub a cut, fresh lemon on chrome fixtures to easily remove water spots, let it sit for a few minutes, then, rinse with water and a microfiber cloth.
This method can be used anywhere in the home, but is especially great at removing mineral deposits and soap scum in the bathroom.
Just make sure to test on colorful surfaces , since lemon can fade certain colors.
You’ll be amazed by how great simple vinegar and baking soda can clean your toilet!
Mix 1/4 cup baking soda with 1 cup of white vinegar in the toilet bowl. Let the fizzing action subside before using your toilet brush to scrub clean.
Allow the mixture sit in the toilet for 5-10 minutes to freshen before flushing.
Urine odors can permeate your entire bathroom.
Stop offensive urine odors where they start (in and around the toilet) with 3 of the cheapest cleaning supplies you’ll find – lemon, baking soda, and white vinegar.
If you hate that grimy pool of water in the toilet brush holder as much as I do, make sure to use this hack to let your brush drip dry after each use.
This technically isn’t a cleaning hack, but this tip will help you keep your bathroom smelling fresh and clean!
You’ve probably seen those silly commercials advertising Poo-Pourri, the before-you-go toilet spray.
Most fragrance sprays contain toxic chemicals, but Poo-Pourri is made with perfectly safe and all-natural essential oils.
Just spray inside your toilet before you go to stop offensive odors before they start.
Poo-Pourri is a wonderful product, but it’s pretty expensive, especially if you use it regularly. You can save money by making your own DIY spray with this tutorial.

Don’t waste time cleaning your shower curtain by hand – just pop it in the washer!
Wash it in regular detergent (I like this brand) or 1/2 cup of baking soda. Add some towels, which will help rub the dirt and soap scum off the shower curtain while protecting it in the wash.
Once the wash cycle finishes, rehang your curtain to let it drip dry.
Nothing makes your bathroom look worse than dirty grout! Clean it up by making a thick paste with baking soda and vinegar.
Apply the mixture to your grout, and scrub it into the grout with an old toothbrush and some good, old fashioned elbow grease.
Hate getting on your hands and knees to scrub your bathtub?
This Brush Kit contains three different brushes that attach to your drill to clean your bathroom the easy way.
Available on Amazon for $14.95 (drill not included)
Pop bathroom accessories like toothbrush holders and soap dishes in the top rack of the dishwasher to clean and sanitize effortlessly.
Help keep the kiddos safe and healthy by cleaning and disinfecting their bath toys regularly.
Moist areas like your bathroom are the perfect breeding ground for dangerous bacteria, so you want to make sure all the surfaces your kids touch are bacteria and mold free.
However, you don’t need toxic cleaners to do this. Some cheap white vinegar will do.
Add 1/2 cup white vinegar per gallon of warm water in a bucket, soak the toys in the solution for about 10 minutes, and rub toys gently with a microfiber cloth.
To clean inside squeeze toys, suck up the solution into the toy, shake, and squeeze out.
Allow the toys to air dry on a towel or in this Freestanding Toy Caddie, which has holes in the bottom to drain and dry toys between uses plus a study base to catch the water.
